Millennium Cup - 1st Battle - Chen vs. Zhao Ren Liang
Date Added: Jul 14, 2008 10:00 PM
Description: This is the first battle of the Millennium Cup special.

Iron Chef Chen takes on Zhao Ren Liang. The challenger is a Chinese cuisine chef at Peking Konron Hotel(?) He has cooked for VIPs including US President Clinton. Look at the scores at the end of this battle for one of the lowest scores I have ever seen given on the show.

All four chefs are also battling to have one of their dishes named as the Millennium Dish.

This episode is in Japanese with no English subtitles. It is presented here as it originally aired in Japan with all commercials and breaks intact. Enjoy.

Iron Chef: Iron Chef Chinese Chen Kenichi
Theme Ingredient: Abalone

the low score

awesome, this is the first time i've viewed iron chef entirely in japanese. thanks for the uploads!

i don't want to spoil, so i'll use both third-person forms. regarding the low score... that judge is so anal (based on all the episodes i've ever seen with her/him). why is s/he even invited to taste? I bet s/he is one of those pretentious gourmets who can't cook a lick.

Kaga the hobo?

^I loved that intro, even though I didn't know what it meant. An unkempt Kaga roasting a bell pepper over a fire in a forest? Weird. Did he shun his lavish lifestyle after closing Kitchen Stadium and decided he needed to reopen it to cheer himself up? Heh.

Anyway, good battle. Some nice looking dishes, and I loved that presentation Chen did with the stones. When they poured the soup over them, it looked like a geyser or something! Hope that guy holding the lid was ok! As far as that low score, absolutely no surprise who it came from. At least there's no regional bias going on. Oh, fun seeing the commercials too!
