Tuna - Nakamura vs. Hattori
Date Added: Mar 29, 2013 04:46 PM
Description: Nakamura Retirement Special

This episode represents the end of the reign of Iron Chef Japanese Koumei Nakamura. The challenger is none other than Dr. Yukio Hattori. This episode is split into two parts. The first part is primarily about Nakamura and his time in Kitchen Stadium. The second part is the rest of the battle.

You will notice there are two versions of the first part of the battle: subtitled and the OA all-Japanese version. The OA version is about 5 minutes longer, but unless you are a completist, you\'ll do just fine with the subtitled version. The main differences between he versions are the inclusion of footage of a visit to Doc Hattori\'s dressing room and some minor image changes. (They seem to have removed any footage of soldiers and war during the section explaining why this battle is so important to Hattori\'s family.)

Iron Chef: Iron Chef Japanese Koumei Nakamura

Challenger: Yukio Hattori

Nadaban or Nadaman?

Interesting history shown between the Hattori family and Nadaman. Not sure how real the "grudge" is, though. Heh. The history of Nakamura's time as an Iron Chef was fairly balanced, though it seemed the negative moments outweighed the positive ones. I suppose that was partly to build up to this moment. I thought that outtake they showed of the judges receiving their score cards after the ostrich battle was neat! Wish we could see stuff like that more often. It was nice having comments from so many people, too.

As for the battle itself, top notch, as expected. Hattori accounted himself well, though he had a bit of a misfire with that ice cream. Heh. Nakamura also shined. I thought that Olympic steak looked great, and once again, he scored big points with the turnip. Fun to see his trademark gold leaf again, too. :)

I was a little surprised to see the teaser for Morimoto immediately after Nakamura's speech, but maybe that's just the way the tape was cut. I hope so, anyway.
